Project Challenge:

Design and build a wastewater treatment system that serves a nine-unit development.

Environmental/Regulatory Factors:

The area had poor soils and a spring seasonal high water table. Approval by Alberta Environment and Parks was required.

Options considered:

At-grade disposal was initially considered, but due to the spring high water table another solution was required.

Solution:

A new area for the system was identified and a series of five mounds, each approximately 40-meters long, was designed and constructed to allow for even disbursement of the treated wastewater. The 4000 igpd system includes a gravity collection system that conveys effluent to the primary settling tanks and an Orenco AX100 treatment unit.

Result/Performance Data:

Construction commenced in 2015. Completion and startup was in 2016.
